Some adults simply can't spell... But some kids are like spelling bee... This is the advertisement for SPELL CAST, a spelling competition organised by Mediacorp. As you may have guessed, I decided to take up the challenge. I went for the Audition on 12/03/07. The location was of course, Mediacorp TV Station. The TV Station is not open to public at all times. So, only visitors with special reasons can enter the building. Before the Audition started, I was doing some last minute revision on the spelling of some complicated words. At 1:15PM, the time has come...
The audition was a spelling test. There were 3 sections of the test. Section A were multiple-choice questions. Here's an example:
a) Jurassic
b) Jurrassic
c) Jurrasic
The competitors had to choose the correct one for every 10 questions. In addition, you had only 5 seconds to complete each one! No time to stop and think about unsure ones. I trusted my senses. Now, to Section B. This section is about filling in the missing letters of 10 words. For instance:
Green_ich
The answer is Greenwich, which is pronounced as (gren-ige) So this section will be hard for you if you do not even know what the words are. The person would only read out each word once. Here's the interesting part: After you spell every 5 words, you need to unscramble the five letters you had filled in to form a word. A clue will be provided for every 5 letters.
Moving on to the last and final section. It's a typical spelling exercise. JUST THAT IT IS A LOT HARDER!!! >_< class="blsp-spelling-corrected">
Now, for the exciting part of the whole experience. I passed the test, scoring 23/30. That was a great score. I thought I would even fail! Well, this means that I will proceed to the next round. (Which will be held in April, I think.) I am so happy that I can move on!
