Mr Chua once said that the PSLE Maths Examination goes in a pattern. It goes like this: The first year may be hard, the next year might be easy. Unfortunately, he also predicted that this year's PSLE Mathematics was going to be hard. I think he was quite right... I will rate the Maths Paper today an 8 from a scale of 1 to 10.

I expect to get around 80 marks. So even if that happens, I will be prepared. The good news is, if all the PSLE candidates' results drop due to the difficulty of the paper, the scores for grades will also drop. Example: A* is originally 91 marks. A drop will mean maybe about 85 marks for the grade. Well, I don't reckon I can get an A* anyway.

But what mattered more importantly was that I had tried my very best. I revised like hell the day before this exam. 6 Long Hours! But it was worth it anyway. Some of the questions in the paper stumped me the first round I was doing it, so like always, I will skip them. Once I finished whatever questions that can be done, I refer back to the skipped ones. I managed to solve about 5 questions that I skipped. I just had a BRAINWAVE. I suddenly seemed to remember the important concepts Mr Chua taught me. Here's the concept: In a sum, most of the time, there will be a constant principle that is not changed. For example: difference

Using this method, I managed to solve 2 sums that stumped me earlier on. Whew! That was close. The number of questions I skipped that time was starting to worry me! Anyway, I also saved a few marks at least by analysing the question from another degree. I do not know whether my answer was correct but I may be able to save some marks! I spent the last ten minutes checking my answer instead of attempting the last 2 sums I had no confidence in. Before the exam, I already made up my mind that I will not attempt any difficult questions that I think I will not be able to solve. So, in the end, I checked Section B and some questions from Section C. I was glad I did that for I spotted a careless mistake that could have cost me!

Think about it: If you decide to solve a difficult problem within the last ten minutes, you may NOT be able to solve it due to time constraint and even worse, there may be careless mistakes in the easier questions earlier on! So I was relived to know that I had made the right choice.

Okay, Maths is over. I will not think about it anymore. It's Mother Tongue (Chinese) tomorrow. On to REVISION!

POLL

What are your feelings about Mas Selamat Kastari's escape from detention centre?
I'm confident that the Singapore Authorities will round him up soon.
The Singapore Government has done a good job of keeping the country safe thus far. It's no big deal.
I think he will try to get in touch with other Jemaah Islamiah leaders and escape.
Huh? What are you talking about? Who is Mas Selamat Kastari?
